How to increase mental energy and productivity that is lost to anxiety?
I’m in college and struggle with finishing work in a timely manner due to anxiety issues. I usually am only able to be slightly productive with mentally intensive schoolwork for 1-2 hours a day (and I am pretty inefficient due to perfectionist tendencies), and afterwards I just feel completely mentally worn out. I have been prescribed adderall in the past, which didn’t end up working out in my favor.
Any suggestions for improving mental energy in this manner?

Hello friend! I have anxiety issues as well, I’m on antidepressants and i go to a therapist every once in a while. I have two bits of advice for you, first addressing your anxiety.
Anxiety typically causes a build up of adrenaline in your body, therefore a good run or some aerobic exercises will help release all of your pent up energy to help you focus a bit more. Do things that you enjoy in order to help you relax (i.e. writing in a journal, painting, going out with friends etc.)
Secondly, we’ve all grown up thinking that if we can not cram 50 pages of reading into one night we are inefficient learners. That’s wrong. The human brain gets tired. It’s proven that the most studying you should do in a night per subject is about an hour, after that, your memory wont store anything in your long term memory without really REALLY trying. And if you start to feel sleepy, thats game over. Time for a change. Switch to something that isn’t related, for instance switching from math to english.
As time goes on efficiency goes down. The fastest way to become efficient? A nap. It’s called memory consolidation. Everything gets processed, sorted, and stored in your brain. In other words, a clean slate. Your brain is ready for more memorization. Divide your study load into a period of days if you can, don’t do it all in one night. The best time of days to study for us younger folk (I’m a university student) evening time, and after working out. So go for a run then you’ll be up and buzzed and ready for a study session, switch subjects once your tired and if you have to keep going for the day, take a nap and hit the books again. Hope that helped!
