How to ease the separation anxiety of a mother dog from her puppies?
I have a chihuahua who had 3 puppies a few months back. Now that they are weened, I’ll be giving them to various family members. I’m worried that she’ll experience a lot of anxiety over this. Are there any ways to ease this? Will she get over having her puppies taken away from her?

sometimes taking them away 1 at a time helps…also after the puppies are gone spend some extra time with her to keep her distracted,..did she have them in a whelping box or kennel or a particular place? put the box or kennel up….could help….some dogs don’t show much anxiety at all while others grieve.

Yep, after having many litters myself I can tell you that the best thing that you can do is to leave a few small stuffed toys around her.
She will more than likely start carrying them around and nesting them as she would her pups.
This will only go on for a short while and she will get over it.
Good Luck and God Bless

Have you noticed she was going to the pups less and less,
if they are weened usually by 6 weeks old, they should still be 8 weeks old or older when they go to knew homes, believe me,she’ll enjoy the piece, but right now she has to teach them how to play nice,I even think up 12 weeks old when then be great for them to leave, please start the potty trainign, they can understand,3.5 weeks old I had wee pads in their area, then by 5 weeks,i would put them on the pad and say go potty,as they would try and get off,i would put back on wee pad, they knew they potty they play, evenually they would go on pad on their own during play,6 weeks old potty trained, but next to nothing in accidents

I run a care facility for rescue dogs and I use Kava Kava as a stress reliever. It is a natural herb and does not have a drugging effect on the dog. Rescues comes to me with a range of emotional problems that we have to work through. Kava Kava helps calm them down just enough so that they are not dealing with a ton of anxiety. A little extra cuddling never hurts either…
