They can really help! I was diagnosed with clinical depression in 2005 right after my 22 year marriage ended. I thought I was going to die from the depression. It took about 5 or 6 weeks to kick in but once it did it helped me feel SO much better. You don’t feel “doped up.” It just helps you get through the day. You don’t have those wild mood swings either.
Good luck.

it depends on the medication. most anti-depressives can take up to 6 weeks to see any results. anti-anxiety meds work instantly and can really help with anxiety! I don’t think they’re terribly effective though, not as effective as seeing a therapist and working on your self esteem!
good luck!

It all depends on the individual and the medication. Finding the right medicine can improve your mood drastically (and reduce anxiety). Unfortunately, finding the right medication can sometimes be a pain. Some people are put on a medicine that works great for them, while others have to try several different meds before finding one that works. Don’t give up though, as these medications can be real life saver.

It hink anti-depressants help you to sooth ur brain cells which get tangled with too much thinking such as fear/anxiety/insecutiry. They kind of put these cells to sleep so these wont bother your normal brain functioning. I have seen ppl (with really bad temper) ease up by taking such anti-depressants. But i have observed some negetive effect of such medication that it kind of makes the person a bit lazy/easy-going. I mean, easy going by natural / normal nature is OK but when you feel a bit inactive due to medication, that is kind of scary because it feels as if you are not ready to take any further stress and if u r young and ambitious, this kind of medication might even effect your enthusiasm.
I may be wrong. But the above is only an observation of a patient taking such medication.

Keep in mind that the goal of any anti-anxiety or depression medication is to affect a patient’s mood. Only in working with a qualified medical professional is it possible to ensure the correct balance of appropriate medications and other non-chemical activity is achieved to provide balance.
Most often, except in perhaps the most extreme circumstances, medication is coupled with other forms of therapy, be it counseling, group therapy, relaxation or meditation, etc.
Medication can also be used as a temporary solution, such as in high stress or intense grief situations. That being said, with definite exceptions, medication is seldom intended to be a permanent solution to a behavioral issue.
There are many options for anti-anxiety and depression medications available, and by working with your health care professional, the two of you can dial in what works for you to produce the maximum benefit with the least side effects.

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.
Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI – Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There’s this strange herb called “St John’s Wort” – it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John’s Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.
The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced… you have that “learned behavior” in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior – Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction… There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to….
