Jessica asked:
I always get anxious while driving. My bf and I are driving to Baltimore, MD in May and although it’s only 2 hours away because it’s new to me, my anxiety should be worse than ever. I wont be driving. When I get anxiety it makes me feel like I have to ****. And then feeling that in my stomach makes me more anxious! I don’t want to ruin this trip. How do I make the anxiety go away?

If you’re not driving, meditate. Play some soft or classical music, close your eyes, and center your feelings. It really helps me when I’m stressed.

Soothing music of your choice usually helps. I find that meditating on regular basis helps me alleviate some of my anxiety. When i first started to meditate I focused on how i was breathing. Inhale using your diaphragm and exhale through your nose.
I think breathing properly may help because when anxiety hits your breathing becomes irregular and possibly causes these unusual bowel movements.
Hope this helps!

Anxiety is stress. So what you can do beforehand is to visualize as much as possible your trip. In your mind kind of make a video of things that you know will happen as you move through your trip. If you think ahead of time the things that are going to happen, then as they happen your mind will already have thought about what to do or what to say, and it will not seem bad at all.
By trying to get ahead of the stress your body will be more relaxed. Before your trip do not drink or eat anything that is a stimulant such as coffee or chocolates. Avoid acidic foods too. It will only add to your anxiety and stomach problems.
Of course you can not visualize every little detail but do what you can. Also think positive thoughts and not always what can go wrong. Look on the bright side of things and enjoy being with your bf.
