How do I overcome the fear of confronting people?

Rosemarie C asked:

This has been affecting many of my decisions. I fear asking for help, recommendations, asking someone out, etc. I guess I fear rejection. I just feel that in the past, I have had people refuse to help me and this has caused the fear. I just want to know what I can do to break through it. Thanks.

Slowly, start small, get into the routine.

Ask for help on small things, even if you don’t need it – each time you do, it gets easier.

I could never talk to girls for fear of offending them or something really stupid like that – now, I have no problem not only doing that but not putting up with their shit. This came from just doing it.

Once you start over thinking it, you won’t do it, so the minute you feel the urge, just do it – when you let it circulate in your mind, it gets worse and harder to do

Unfortunately the only way for you to beat this fear is doing it. I am not a psychologist, I was just a desperate shy person, just like you and the truth is we never get over the fear of not being accepted or rejection.
However once you do speak out or stand up for yourself. It becomes easier and before you know you are talking to everyone about anything. Before confronting a person on any issue, ask yourself: Is it worth the complications later? Am I right? If you say yes to both then go for it.

Well you never really overcome it but you can control it & force yourself out of it..I have a fear of confronting people too but I make myself do it.

Like any fear, the best way to deal with it is to confront it. my advice would be to make it a point to confront someone each day. eventually it will be second nature to you…no longer something you have to fear
