How can I control the feeling of sickness and panic due to anxiety before work?

John M asked:

I suffer social anxiety and about 2 hours before I go to work everyday I completely lose my appetite and I start to feel sick, I take anti depressants and I have been on a course of cognitive therapy but I still panic before I go to work and it is making my life miserable, how can I stop being like this?

Talk to your RX and have them consider more of an anti-anxiety med vs just depression. Sometimes that is not enough and you will need to also switch jobs.

This may sound like I am trying to make fun but I’m really not.

You need to find a job you can enjoy. Most people who have anxiety on the job are poorly matched for that job. Notice I didn’t say couldn’t do the job or are poor at the job.

No, you need to do some serious soul searching, and career assessment to find a job that is a better fit for you emotionally.

Anxiety is a symptom of deppression. You get depressed due to stress.
The best way to stop deppression is to get lost of its cause. If your job is the cause of your stress, then I guess you might want to consider transfering to a new workplace. Not just your job, a new workplace and environment I guess is the best solution if I were in your position.

    I hope this helps.

Firstly let me tell you that I had what you have for over 13 years.

I learnt that you MUST find out what is the root cause of the anxiety disorder and treat that – taking medication only helps you to cope etc, it does not address the ROOT CAUSE.

Now, if it is your work, or something at your work, or someone at your work, or you are fearful of getting the sack, or whatever it is, even a fear you may having of travelling to work – THAT is what you need to unearth and then manage that – and there are simple ways of doing that.

Go visit the site below – it will point you in the right direction.

Remember, you MUST treat the cause of the anxiety – and the techniques for then managing, and abolishing, those anxieties can easily be learned – I know, because that is what cured me.

    Best of luck.
